A small club is not a ceiling

Talata is four years old and runs out of two gyms in Østerbro. That is worth saying plainly, because the thing parents quietly worry about is whether a young club can take a kid as far as a big one.

The honest answer is that we are not trying to keep anybody. The job is to get a player ready for the level above, and then help them go. Sometimes that level is a prep school in Ontario. Sometimes it is a Danish 1. division roster forty minutes down the motorway. Here is where they have actually gone.

Talata → Orangeville Prep, Canada

Malthe was a wing in the Talata Academy through the 2024/25 season when he committed to Orangeville Prep in Ontario, one of the top prep programmes in North America and a regular feeder into NCAA Division 1. He spent 2025/26 there.

Johan Lyager Joensen

Talata → Martins Ferry High School, Ohio

Johan is one of the originals. He was on the floor in the first season, when Talata was twenty kids and one team, and he is still here in the season the club has six teams in the Danish league.

This year he plays for the Purple Riders at Martins Ferry High School in Ohio. American high school ball is the single most common route into the NCAA, and Johan is taking it at fifteen off the back of two years in this gym.

Talata Men, 3. division → Næstved, 1. division

Marius played for the Talata Men's side and has moved up two tiers of Danish senior basketball to Næstved in the 1. division.

The senior team matters more than people assume. A club with a real men's roster gives a seventeen year old somewhere to train up into, and it gives a twenty year old a competitive season without having to leave Copenhagen first. Marius used both.

Nobody on this page spent a season being the best player in their own age group. They were all pushed into a gym where they were not.

The Men's side is the top of the ladder inside the club. It is why a seventeen year old has somewhere to go on a Wednesday night.
