Malthe Mikkelsen commits to Orangeville Prep in Canada.

From the archive, 2025. Malthe has since moved on to another club. We left the story up because it happened and he earned it.

Malthe Mikkelsen was 15 and playing wing for Talata when he committed to Orangeville Prep in Canada, one of the top prep programs in North America.

What Orangeville Prep is

Orangeville is in Ontario. They play at the top level of Canadian high school basketball and they have a real record of sending players into NCAA Division I. Getting a spot means people who watch basketball for a living think you have room to grow.

A Danish kid committing at 15 is rare.

What it meant for us

Malthe came up here. He trained here, competed here, and got better here before he left.

We don't take credit for that. He did the work. But a kid went from this gym to Orangeville, and everyone in the building saw it happen.

"We knew Malthe had something special. He works hard, he listens, and he competes every day. Orangeville is going to challenge him in new ways and he's ready for it."

The bigger picture

Copenhagen basketball is growing. We built Talata so a player in this city can train every day, play games that count, and be seen by people who can actually open a door.

Malthe was the first. He won't be the last.

Update, August 2026

I wrote this when Malthe committed. Here's how it actually went, because half a story is no use to the next family reading it.

Malthe was in our Academy through 2024/25. He spent 2025/26 at Orangeville Prep in Ontario. He's back in Copenhagen now, playing elsewhere in the city.

He went, and that year is his.

Since then Johan Lyager Joensen has left for Martins Ferry High School in Ohio. That's two Talata players to North America.
