Talata brings basketball to Strandvejsskolen.

Most kids in Copenhagen have never been inside a basketball gym. Not because they don't want to. Because nobody showed up at their school.

This spring, we changed that. Talata Basketball launched a weekly program at Strandvejsskolen in Østerbro, working directly with grade 5, 7, and 9 students during school time. No travel required. No kit needed. Just show up and play.

Why we went to the school

We know how this works. Kids don't find clubs. Clubs find kids. If you wait for them to sign up, most of them never will. So instead of putting up a poster and hoping, we walked through the front door.

Strandvejsskolen sits in Østerbro, the same neighbourhood where most of our players train. It made sense to start there. The school was open to it. We were ready. So we went.

What the sessions look like

Each session runs during the school day. We come in, set up, and get straight to work. The first few minutes are always the same. A few kids don't know what a bounce pass is. By the end of the hour, they're running plays.

Coach Lens Aboudou leads the school sessions. He's currently playing pro ball and comes back to coach when he's in Copenhagen. The kids listen to him in a way that doesn't happen with every adult. Because he's actually out there doing it.

What happens next

Some of these kids will want more. They'll show up on a Thursday for a free trial at Svanemøllehallen. A few of them will stick. That's how the program grows.

We're not trying to convert every student into a competitive basketball player. We're just making sure they get a real shot at it. The rest is up to them.
