Malthe Mikkelsen is 15 years old. He plays wing for Talata Basketball. And he just committed to Orangeville Prep in Canada, one of the top prep programs in North America for players chasing a professional career.
This is a big deal. Not just for Malthe. For Danish basketball.
What Orangeville Prep is
Orangeville Prep is based in Ontario, Canada. They compete at the highest level of Canadian high school basketball and have a track record of developing players who go on to NCAA Division I programs and beyond. Getting a spot there means scouts and coaches believe in your ceiling.
For a Danish player to commit at 15 is rare. It says something about how Malthe has developed and about what Talata has been building.
What this means for Talata
Malthe came up through Talata. He trained here, competed here, grew his game here in Copenhagen. His commitment to Orangeville is proof that the work done in this gym translates at the highest level.
We don't take credit for Malthe. He put in the work. But we're proud to have been part of the journey. And we're proud to show every kid who walks through our doors that this path is real.
"We knew Malthe had something special. He works hard, he listens, and he competes every day. Orangeville is going to challenge him in new ways and he's ready for it."
The bigger picture
Copenhagen basketball is growing. Talata was built to give players in this city a serious environment to develop. A place where young players can train every day, play meaningful games, and be seen by the right people.
Malthe's story is one. There will be more. That's the point.
